Varanasi is a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh dating to the 11th century B.C. The Mahabodhi Temple is located at the place of Lord Buddha's enlightenment. The temple has a 50m (170 ft) tower. The present temple was restored around 1880.

It covers an area of 10.24 square km.
